Old Dude Ranch

‘Old Dude Ranch’ is a natural-sounding overdrive pedal, based on the Nobels ODR-1, an extremely versatile pedal made popular by Nashville studio musicians, and has become ‘the sound’ of country music. From edge-of-breakup tone to heavy, amp-like overdrive, the amount of gain on tap is very generous and sounds great throughout the entire range.

While not strictly a ‘transparent’ sounding pedal, the EQ controls available allow for a variety of tone sculpting options. The ‘width’ control is a non-standard tone control, acting as a sweeping double filter. In the 12 o’clock position, the sound is neutral. Turning the knob counter-clockwise minimizes the treble and bass, enhancing the mid frequencies. Turning it clockwise enhances the treble and bass, creating a more mid-scooped tone. The only real complaint of the original ODR-1 is that it has too much low end with no way to dial it out. To remedy that, this project incorporates a ‘depth’ variable bass control, allowing you to dial in the perfect amount of low frequencies.
